Sixteen-plus years of psychiatric training. A medical degree, a doctorate in neuroscience, more schooling than nearly anyone in medicine receives. And the safe transition off serotonergic antidepressants — the thing tens of millions of people will eventually need — was never properly taught to him.
Not in medical school, not in residency, not anywhere along the way. And, as he says in the clip, not to most of the colleagues he works with either.

If the most extensively trained specialists in the system weren’t taught this, then the therapists weren’t. The coaches weren’t. The facilitators weren’t. The gap this series has been describing isn’t a gap in your education.
It’s a gap in everyone’s.
Dr. Rabin’s response is the part worth hearing in his own words: the evidence base for doing this well exists. The clinical experience exists. And he’s decided that waiting for the institutions to catch up is not a plan.
If the system lags behind, he says, that’s fine for the system — it’s not a reason for practitioners, or the people they serve, to be deprived of what’s already known.
